Areas I'm sure you've heard about...
You'll hear people say the only place to live is in Spring Valley, Summerlin, Aliante, Green Valley, Henderson, Anthem, etc. Each of us believes we live in the greatest part of town--of course! Actually, about fifteen years ago there was Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson. Then, "The Lakes" (on the Westside of the valley) came into being. Interesting fact...The Lakes is called such because CitiBank wanted to build their credit card processing center in that area--and didn't want payments going to "Las Vegas", so, payments go to The Lakes, NV. They would only build it with a different mailing address...hence, "The Lakes" was born! It's a gorgeous area with all the conveniences you could ask for.
About the same time, the Northwest part of Henderson (which is located in the SE part of the valley) opened up their first master planned community...and, Green Valley came into being! It's a beautiful area in the valley--with everything you could want.
Then, of course, there is Summerlin...developed by Del Webb. It's another beautiful master planned community with all of the amenities!
We now have new areas all over the valley--and they are all very nice! Each one has a different 'feel' (to me anyway!).
You may want to consider how close to work (if you're employed) you want to be...whether freeway access is important to you (once you live here, you'll learn the 'surface streets' and the shortcuts around town--where the school zones are, etc.)...whether you care if you're facing into the sun on your commute... Keep in mind, miles from where you want to go and minutes from where you want to go are two entirely different things!
